1. How we measure places

1.1 Why measure place?
1.2 What is place data?
1.3 What makes Place Score’s system unique?
1.1 Why measure place?
  • Places are the environments that we are most connected to – our neighborhoods, local shops and offices. They impact our personal well being, our social connections and local economic resilience. Government and the private sector invest billions of dollars each year in places – the impact of which could not be measured until now.
  • Measuring place provides the evidence base for more effective decision making and allows for impact assessment over time.
1.2 What is place data?
  • Place data should help you to understand current community values and place performance in order to inform future decisions.
  • Place data should be designed ‘fit for purpose’, human centric, consistent and repeatable.
  • There are lots of ways to capture information about a specific location but there is only one way to measure place – through the people using it.
  • Most organisations already collect qualitative place data through a range of interpersonal community engagements such as workshops, focus groups, meetings, surveys, mapping etc Place Score turns the qualitative into representative quantitative data.
1.3 What makes Place Score’s system unique?
  • The most significant challenge faced by place professionals is how to ensure equitable representation in deciding the future of local places. Place Score puts the ‘common good’ first, highlighting shared values, performance strengths and weaknesses and investment priorities that will have the most positive impact on the most amount of people.
  • Place Score is an all in one system – it provides diagnostic, engagement, bench marking and tracking data.
  • Our methodology is nationally consistent allowing for comparison with your competitors and longitudinal tracking of trends and performance over time.
  • Place Score’s metrics can align with your strategic objectives – no need to design a bespoke system, you can use the same data for multiple projects over multiple years.
  • Place Score is the only place measurement system to have undertaken University Peer Review with Macquarie University. Our methodology is designed fit for purpose – that is people understand that their inputs will influence decisions.
  • Place Score is a sole provider of a proprietary product and our IP cannot be communicated, repeated or distributed in any form by any other organisation. Place Score’s product and associated services are not available from any other suppliers.

3.1 What is the Care Factor and what can it be used for?
3.2 What is the PX Assessment and what can it be used for?
3.3 How long does the Place Score process take?
3.4 How much does it cost?
3.1 What is the Care Factor and what can it be used for?
  • Care Factor, a unique community values-capture tool acts as a ‘place census’ and allows you to understand what is important to your community. Its added value is that is continues to be a useful data source long after the project is over.
  • By quantifying the place attributes that are most valued by your community, you can plan improvement investment more effectively and measure change over time. Care Factor data lets you know your top 10 valued attributes as well as a full demographic breakdown that illustrates how different groups are aligned or conflicted.
  • You can undertake a Care Factor survey across a region, local government area, neighbourhood or workplace and get your own login to a personalized dashboard to access your data.
3.2 What is the PX Assessment and what can it be used for?
  • A PX Assessment captures your community’s assessment of a place as it currently stands. Their combined inputs calculate a score of 1-100 that captures the quality of the place experience and identifies the place attributes are contributing positively or negatively.
  • Conducting a PX Assessment before and after investment is a great way to obtain definitive data regarding the impact of improvements.
  • PX Assessments can also be used to create various types of comparison reports – Comparison of same location vs time, comparison of different locations and how they are performing to each other, comparison to the national benchmark.
  • You can undertake a PX Assessment for a neighbourhood, main street or workplace.
3.3 How long does the Place Score process take?
  • We have a team in Melbourne and Sydney who can be on the field in days and we can complete a Street PX Assessment can be completed in 2-3 weeks from the receipt of purchase while other areas may take a little longer.
  • Turn around time to complete an entire PX Assessment is 4-6 weeks, but it can be done quicker if data is collected face to face as opposed to online surveys.
3.4 How much does it cost?
  • Depending on the number of respondents you wish to get and the number of places you want to measure, the costs will vary.
  • A Street PX Assessment starts from $1,500.
