We can help your Council make its community engagement process for your LEP update faster, more efficient and more effective. Read more below on how we can help.
Place Score and LEP Updates
There is no denying that updating a Local Environmental Plan (LEP) is one of the most important strategic processes a council can embark on. It sets the framework for all infrastructure investment for the future. It determines how our communities will change, or not, over the next decade and where that change will occur.
So, how we can help? We think the benefits of using Place Score are clear:
- One engagement tool that collects data from across your LGA and can segment that data across key LEP themes (e.g. housing), by suburb and demographics
- The data is available on an online dashboard and can be used throughout the LEP process, and for other projects over a 3-5-year timeframe
- It is easy and fast, and available in six languages – community feedback tells us that people who don’t usually engage do because they can see that their small investment will have long-term impact (over 18,000 Australians have already completed one of our surveys)
- Integrating the Neighbourhood PX Assessments allows you to measure the liveability of your suburbs and set a baseline for measuring the impact of investment over time – great metrics for reporting
With Sydney’s population continuing to grow, the primary focus is on where people will live, work and play, and how will we connect these key land uses. In an ideal world we aim for localising these co-dependent activities because of the multiple benefits that cascade from them; closer communities, less dependence on transportation, stronger local economies, healthier people and many more.
For existing neighbourhoods this is likely to mean more housing closer to existing amenity like shops, train stations, education or health. This make sense. Yet… it also potentially causes conflict because people embedded in these neighbourhoods may feel that any change will be detrimental to their current way of life.
For greenfield or future neighbourhoods, it may appear easier to solve without the challenge of managing existing stakeholders – but that in itself can be a problem – who exactly are we building a future for?
Place Score was developed with the primary intention of helping understand what people really care about, how they rate their current lived experience and when we aggregate these two data sets, to clearly identify priorities for government and private sector development.
Our priorities identification tool shows what communities most care about in their suburb and how they rate its current performance to show you where you need to prioritise – the lower the score the higher the priority.
How can this help your LEP Update process?
Our Neighbourhood Care Factor tool is the quickest and most effective way to understand what your community most values in their neighbourhoods. It is like a ‘place census’ undertaken across the LGA. It collects insights across a range of topics – character, housing, transport, community facilities and more. And it collects it in a way that allows to you to not only hear the loudest voices but, more importantly, to segment the data so you can hear what the little voices are saying too. We can show you what people in a particular suburb are saying or dive deeper to hear what young people most value, or people who have moved from overseas, or been there forever. Then by understanding internal migration patterns we can forecast who will most likely be moving into new areas and share what their views are so that you can plan for their future too.
We’re really excited to help communities and Councils shape a future for their places that improves people’s lives and delivers a rigourous evidence base that prioritises the common good and reduces conflict.
LEP Updates are hard work, but we can help make it easier!
