About the 2023 Australian Liveability Census

The 2023 Australian Liveability Census invited local communities to share what is important to them and how local neighbourhoods are performing. Our objective was to understand liveability from the perspective of our nation’s diverse population and provide decision makers with the evidence base to enhance the lives of local communities.

Launched on National Neighbour Day, Sunday 26th March 2023 until Friday 30th June 2023, the 2023 Australian Liveability Census is the country’s largest social research project. Over 50,000 responses were collected from residents of every state and territory – 18,000 more than the 2021 Australian Liveability Census!

Place Score would like to thank all our local and state government partners, corporate and not for profit supporters, and community groups who came together to ensure that local experts will continue to provide the local expertise needed to understand and improve liveability for all.

Liveability in 2023

With over 50,000 responses across all states and territories, the 2023 Australian Liveability Census is the largest community engagement project ever undertaken. The results will provide an unparalleled opportunity to understand the impacts of covid, climate change and the economy on our community’s everyday lives.
