The survey

Australia’s most comprehensive liveability survey

Our proprietary methodology was developed through a 12 month peer review process with Macquarie University, Sydney. Nationally consistent, designed specifically to inform government planning and track community outcomes, the results can be used across all departments from corporate governance, open space and transport, to sustainability and community development.

Represent your community by geography as well as demography

We work collaboratively to maximise participation from a representative cross section of your community. Our record-breaking engagement campaigns are supported by a full suite of communication materials, methodologies and all technology support. Australian Liveability Census

Every two years Place Score facilitates
Australia’s largest social research project –
the Australian Liveability Census.

We partner with local and state governments, the private sector and not-for-profit organisations to invite the Australian community to share what is important to them and how local neighbourhoods are performing. Our objective is to understand liveability from the perspective of our nation’s diverse population and provide decision-makers with the evidence base to enhance the lives of local communities. Since 2017, over 300,000 responses have been collected to build the country’s largest social research data set and benchmarks, with the results being utilised for decision-making, reporting, planning and communications.

Every two years, the Australian Liveability Census opens on Neighbour Day, the last Sunday in March and closes on 30 June.

The results from the 2025 Australian Liveability Census will be available in October 2025.

The next Australian Liveability Census will be in 2027.
